Top 10 Jewellery Trends To Look Out For In 2021

We’re well over half way way through 2021. Crazy, right? New fashion and style has been adapting to the pandemic and lockdown in its own way, and jewellery is no different. As designers start to solidify the trends that will take us through the year, we thought we’d take a quick look at 10 of the jewellery trends that we think will be kicking off in 2021.

1. Interchangeable Jewellery

Variety is, as always, the spice of life. Now imagine variety, but it’s less expensive and much more environmentally friendly. Jewellers are now catching on and designing necklaces with interchangeable pendants, earrings with interchangeable jewels and all sorts of other jewellery designs where you can change colours and stones just like that. It’s great for matching with different outfits and for saving on a different chain for each pendant.

2. Layering

Much like a very good cake, layers in jewellery are important. The right piece has to be the base, and the perfect statement piece should be on top. We think layering your jewellery is coming back in a big way. Whether it’s necklaces or bracelets or rings, more is better when it comes to combining jewels this year.

3. Gold Hoop Earrings

Big hoops are back baby! Gold hoops have been in and out of the prime-time for a while now, but 2021 does seem to be a hoop year. Gold hoops are at the top of the pile this year, as large gold statements seem to be very popular in the early 2021 releases.

4. Textured Metal

This one seems to be a favourite of some of the big designers in their 2021 collections, and we can see why. Simple but elegantly textured metal jewellery carries with it a touch of class mixed with a slight hint of brutalism. It fits very well with a more minimalist aesthetic and works very well as a statement piece.

5. Strong Colours

Amongst all the doom and gloom of a global pandemic and lockdown after lockdown, it’s nice to see some colour. That seems to be a thought shared by many as strong colours in jewellery are very much back in. We’ll have to see if this means minimalism is taking a backseat to “maximalism”. For now though, you can check out our collections of coloured gems to see which colour takes your fancy.

6. Pendant Necklaces

A good pendant can make the difference between drab and dashing. They’re just a perfect statement jewel that can really transform an outfit. It’s also the perfect Zoom call jewel, as you can just about squeeze a good pendant into the camera shot. It’s not surprising then that in the age of Zoom and Teams that pendant necklaces are very much back in vogue.

7. Artisanal Jewellery

Handmade jewellery is finally getting the respect it deserves. “Fast” fashion has swept the world over the last few years, but artisanal jewels still hold a very special place in everyone’s hearts. That’s why we think handmade jewellery will always be popular. Everyone loves receiving a unique piece which has been lovingly designed and handcrafted by an artisan who has jewellery running through their veins.

8. Birthstones

Whether you believe in the power of birthstones or not, there’s something nice about wearing the stone which is associated with your birth month. There’s a sense of history and mythology that you just can’t replicate. It’s not surprising then that birthstones have become a lot more popular in the last few years. To explore birthstone jewellery, and find out what stone you fall under, you can check out our Birthstone collection.

9. Gold Vermeil

In jewellery, quality comes above all else. Gold vermeil is essentially a higher quality version of gold plating. The quality of the gold is higher, and the way it is used makes each item of jewellery much more durable, long-lasting and makes sure that it keeps its colour for much longer. Gold vermeil isn’t a particularly flashy innovation, but it’s one that will stand the test of time. To explore this new way of doing gold, you can see our collection of gold vermeil items. And remember, it’s pronounced “vehr-may”

10. Personalised Jewellery

Personalising a gift makes it just that little bit more special. That goes double when you’re not able to see all the loved ones you’d like to be spending time with. Personalised jewellery as gifts is coming back strong, as everyone who cannot visit their loved ones is sending gifts their way instead.
